**How has becoming a parent changed your life?**
« on: May 27, 2013, 04:16:55 pm »
Parenting is a life changing event, I doubt there will be anyone that will argue with that. But each of us is different so different things (emotionally as well as physically) change.

So how has becoming a Mummy or Daddy changed your life?

Now when people say 'being a parent changes your life' and you are pregnant..you just kind of say "yeah yeah I know"...then it happens..and wow!
Having my daughter 4months ago..everything has changed.
I used to be quite a shy person, who struggled to go out and about on my own and who struggled to meet new people..but now.. I talk to everyone, go to all these new places and I'm out all of the time, all because of her, because I don't want her to grow up being shy and unsociable!
I wouldn't leave the house without makeup or my hair done..now I have a shower and get dressed in 10minutes and I leave the house covered in dribble and/or sick and I care more about what my daughter is wearing and that she is looking nice.
When you're ill and you don't have a baby..you just sit around feeling sorry for yourself, but with a baby you just get up and carry on. Same when you've had no sleep(of which I don't get a lot).
Everything is about my daughter. I don't want to go out without her, when I go shopping I only look for things for her, I work my schedule around her, everything I do is for her. And you could say that when you become a mum you 'lose yourself' because its all about your baby and not you..but truthfully..I've found myself, I feel more like me than ever before. I've found my reason in life..the reason I was put on this earth...and it happened at 23.32 on 26th January 2013. :)

I think it would be lovely to have a quote section on the forum and if Charlotte agrees, I think this would make a lovely start for it

My life changed when I had my daughter but not as dramatically as I thought it would (the first 6 weeks were definitely a shock though). My focus, is of course, on her but I am also learning how to balance my life and her needs separately and ensuring that we are both happy. I have also learned so much about children and babies that I never knew before and it is amazing to be able to change my focus from work and university to learning who my daughter is, the different types of solid foods that she can eat and when, different parenting techniques etc.

Today I came to the conclusion that the sound of my son's laughter is the best sound in the world.
I think that sums up how my life has changed   :D

I still can't believe that my husband and I have created our wonderful little boy.  I'm currently typing this as he naps in my arms, watching him smile in his sleep.  I love his big grin in the mornings as we get him from his cot, and even love his little sad face when he cries.

It's also great to now have friends in Hinckley, whom I can turn to for advice or just a coffee.  My husband and I knew very few people about a year ago and now it's absolutely fabulous to be able attend groups that not only stimulate and help Joel develop, but also it's great for me/us to get out of the house and meet other mummies and daddies.

Being a parent, it's just fab  ;D

it took us a very long time to believe we were parents, when we were finally lucky enough to hold Sammy in our arms it was just unbelievable that he was actually ours, after all the heartache we had been through just getting pregnant there was no way that this little baby could be ours, and even months and months later we both kept expecting someone to come long and say they needed their baby back now

Am i the only one who wasn't overwelmed by a massive change. maybe I'm just the kind of person who takes it in their stride. Obviously things do change but I had only recently got married and thats a change as well.

well no i lie there, day 5 when we had no sleep at all that night after a really rough day we struggled to take in our stride and did have a panic, even thought about looking for the receipt to return him, but so glad we didn't :P

I became a parent nearly 13 years ago but my marriage was hard, I didn't know it at the time...i thought everyones marriage was the same so I suppose I really became a proper parent, one that I can remember anyway about 6 years later. When I finally woke up, realised my marriage wasn't normal, whatever normal is and that I needed to get out and look after myself and my children. I now have three children, all extremely different and one being Autistic. They are all completely different and all my both mine and my now husbands life full and amazing.
There isn't a day that goes past that isn't a challenge, that isn't hard work, that doesn't bring tears of some sort and that's like a rollar coaster that one can't be got off and two we wouldn't want to get off.
So what does being a parent mean to me....it means a rollar coaster of amazing achievements....every single day!
